G.F. Williams had a busy beginning to the year. We started with the mammoth task of stock taking; a process that takes us over two weeks checking weights, stock codes and data. This gave us a great opportunity to bed in the new stock from our Thailand buying trip before Christmas, but also the newest addition to the team, Hannah.
You can read Hannah’s introduction to the G.F. Williams here.
This year we are emabarking on the process of photographing of our packeted stock. Currently only 1/4 of our stock is visible online. Our packet stock will all be on our new website which is to be launched later in the year. This ranges from our highest quality packets such as Diamond cut Emerald (D295) to our more commercial Amethyst range.
January flew by, and with an influx of Valentine requests for Pink Sapphires and Ruby hearts. We were lucky enough to have in stock this beautiful ‘No Heat’ Ruby which stole our hearts.
Education; February also brought the opportunity to dispense and gain further knowledge within the industry. We were invited again to visit to GIA London Campus over at Great Russell Street. The workshop Jason presents allows students to try their hand at mock gemstone dealing. Through a series of pricing tests and grading practical excerises they learn that you cannot rely entirely on gemmological tools to determine a stone’s value and that time spent asking for information from the vendor can pay dividends.
We were honoured to have Emma Allen with us for work experience, she shadowed us for a week learning the ins and outs of the industry. A raft of personal new experiences for her. Thank you for your contibutions Emma.
We were also privileged to get our own industry update at Presman Mastermelt by kind invitaion from the indefatigable Gary Williams. You will be able to read further about this trip in the next monthly blog.
